If you've been around MCC for awhile, you know that we're Texas music junkies. You know that some of our favorite artists are from the Austin area. But did you know that many of them, including Walt Wilkins, Kelley Mickwee, Jamie Lin Wilson, Courtney Patton, Adam Carroll, The Band of Heathens, have all written multiple songs with Owen Temple?
Owen hasn't been touring outside of Texas much these last few years, but is a regular at iconic Texas stages like The Saxon Pub, The Mucky Duck, Dosey Doe, Poor David's Pub and countless others.
Owen's latest release, Rings on a Tree, dropped on September 26, and is Owen's ninth full length record. We've been listening ever since, and it's pretty great - it includes two Walt Wilkins and one Kelley Mickwee co-write. Owen also co-authored a book about songwriting, Songfarmer, with Gordy Quist of The Band of Heathens.
Richard Skanse of Lone Star Music Magazine wrote, "Temple [earns] a seat at the table next to the best Texas/Americana troubadours of his generation. He’s always had a great voice for the medium, but it’s never sounded better than it does here: as rich, warm and comforting as Don Williams and as dry, worn and wizened as Townes Van Zandt… But best of all are the songs. Every one of them is a keeper”
We've been wanting to host Owen for awhile now, and we're thrilled he'll be kicking off MCC's 10th season!
